Initially, I looked forward very much to work post graduation. I get to earn money (I am sure evryone thinks alike about this) and I do not need to burn midnight oil for last minute studying for exams anymore!
But internship kind of changed my perspective on that. Working does not mean you earn money solely. You have to bear your own expenses too. Privileges like swiping daddy's supplementary credit card for shopping, petrol, the "touch 'n' go" balance, mobile phone bills.... are NO NOs! You spend what you earn.
So after completing 4 weeks of my internship, I have came to realization that I would prefer studying over working. Here are some of my reasons:
#1 : Waking up early
I wake up even earlier than my high school sisters in order to reach in time to work! Normally, even classes at 8am, I normally wake up at half pass 7 yet, I still make it in time to class!
#2 : Traffic jams
Traffic jams are madness! Takes me more than an hour to reach Jln Semantan every weekday morning but in actual fact, it takes less than half an hour exclusive of jams. Using the same route, in case you were wondering.
#3 : High expenses
If you think working is all about earning money, think again! The high living expenses are beyond what I thought. It costs me... let me see... RM 13 petrol, RM 5.20 toll, RM 6 parking and an average of RM 10 for lunch, daily. This is in exclusive of my mobile phone bills, weekend outings and 'yamcha' sessions with friends.
#4 : Formal attire
I am honestly not fond of dressing up to work. It is uncomfortable in those formal working wear and I hate walking with the heels! Come to think of it, I enjoy dragging either my pair of Superstar or Country to class. Even sometimes, my slippers. Now I know, Adi Dassler's team created their version of sneakers for a reason ;)
#5 : Politics
Favouritism played by superiors are simply annoying. Though I was told numerous times that it is the nature of working world, but facing it is way harder than I had perceived it earlier.
#6 : Gossips
I thought it was only people in my campus was bad. I mean, a small place where I study, everyone knows about everybody. Most of all, they talk about everybody but people in the working world do worse.
#7 : No friends
So you thought you could make new friends in your office. No way! Colleagues will always remain colleagues. They are no "friends" to me.
#8 : Little eligible bachelors
I was made to believe this: If you see someone in primary school, he is a primary school boy. If you see someone in high school, he is only a high school boy. And if you see someone from the university, he is an undergraduate. But if you see someone from work, he is a career man. My mom taught me that, by the way. So, she insisted that we should settle for someone only when we finish studying but she what she did not tell was, most working guys are either married or attached which makes our chance slimmer *LOL*
#9 : Boring
Sitting in front of the LCD for more than 8 hours a day. The work is so stagnant and boring. I miss those days with ADSP where everyday is a different day. And I think I do not enjoy admin work.
#10 : Going home late
Someone once told me that I am a very family oriented kind of person. And I agree. I miss spending time at home, doing nothing but just chatting with mom, Min, Fei or even Bryan! And I miss spending time with all of them at home. Working means I am now spending more of my time in the office than home. My record was reaching home at 11pm. While I got home, everyone was already asleep. Hmmph....
